Cake smash sessions are extremely limited and best done around 11 months. Please book early to ensure your spot on my calendar.
As with all my sessions, my focus will be on your baby so I keep the props to a minimum. I personally love the simplicity of baby and cake only.
THE CAKE:
Please let me know in advance what color(s) you will order for your cake. DON'T TRUST THE BAKER to know your color choices. Make sure they understand what color you're asking for. Show them samples of specific colors. I cannot stress this enough, there are a lot of shades of pink and blue.
Try to avoid bright colors towards the top of the cake. When baby gets it on around their mouth it gives them a clown appearance.
I prefer white cake on the inside, regular frosting (no fondant). My clients have brought both sizes 6" and 8", cupcake style and regular round. It's really just your personal preference.
OUTFITS:
Clients are required to bring the cake smash outfit. Please make sure to fit it before you arrive so we are not annoying baby getting things adjusted.
If you decide to also bring balloons, please no metallic or mylar as they will create an unwanted reflection from the flash.
Cake smash sessions generally only go one of two ways. Either way below happens quickly and it's very entertaining!
1. The baby loves it and makes a huge funny mess.
2. The baby wants nothing to do with the cake. Now that they are on the move they usually just crawl or walk away. Wear your yoga pants so you can chase your baby down!
THEMES:
I do not offer themed sessions (example - Mickey Mouse)
SESSION DAY:
Make sure the cake has been out of the fridge long enough to soften up. If it's too cold or the frosting is hard they usually won't want to touch it.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow time to settle into the studio, get to know your baby as well allowing time for me to prep the cake in the set.
Wear clothes you don't mind getting cake on. When we are done with the session, they are usually covered in cake! It can be a very messy situation.
At this time extended family, older siblings, nannies, or friends are not permitted in my studio.
Please do not bring any other children, we want things very calm and quiet in the studio and is also why we ask that you just bring one other adult or even better, for you to come on your own. Less distraction for the baby is best. Also, it's my experience that babies will interact with me better when there is less of an audience. Think about it from their perspective, if there are 4 people trying to get their attention and make them smile or are even just looking at them they can get very serious, even worried wondering why everyone is looking at them. I will also ask that you sit back and enjoy the session so hopefully baby will interact with me and the camera. There's nothing more adorable than a baby looking right into the lens.
Has your baby been sick? Please let me know if your child has experienced any illness up ten days prior to your session. As I'm sure you can understand, the welfare of the vulnerable newborn babies that grace our studio is our number one priority. If your child is sick or at any stage of a cold or on antibiotics for example you are asked to give 48 hour notice to avoid a rescheduling fee. Children that are sick will NOT be permitted in the studio and as much as we hate to do so, will be turned away if arriving for their session with an illness or overcoming illness. A rescheduling fee of $300 will be applied. This also includes any other person in the household that may be attending the session. Thank you for your understanding.
If you're running behind please give me a call or text. 805-660-3390. Now that we are in our busy baby season, sessions are usually held back to back with the only time in between for sanitizing and set up.
Please let me know if you're baby is having a bit of separation anxiety or stranger danger. I'll have a softer demeanor when you arrive.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
I'm looking forward to your baby's cake smash! Let's hope it's super messy!
Gentle Reminder:
Personal video and photographs (iphone etc) are not permitted in the studio.
