Common Questions about Newborn Photography
Thank you for considering my Los Angeles newborn photography studio for your infant and baby photos.
My expertise and extensive experience in handling, posing and photographing even the tiniest of infants you will have peace of mind that your tiny newborn will be in the very best of hands.
Please CONTACT me to request availability and pricing. To ensure my clients are getting the best possible experience and timely galleries, I do limit my sessions per month. Also, due to my studio's notability sessions are generally booked out about two months.
I offer All-Inclusive Newborn and Baby Digital Image Session Packages.
The following are some of the most common questions I get from new parents.
Are you up to date on the Whooping Cough Vaccine, Flu, and Covid vaccine?
Yes! I am up to date on TDap and I get a Flu shot annually. I have had all 6 doses of the Covid vaccine, including the fall 2023 booster. Your baby's comfort and safety is my #1 priority! I am obgyn and pediatrician approved.
What is the best age to photograph my newborn baby?
Newborn photography is best done between 5-10 new days when they are still in that super sleepy, squishy, curly stage. It's also best to do the session before the baby acne sets in. This is not to say we can't photograph your baby a bit older, but the ultimate time is during the first week. Read more HERE
Do you have a studio?
Yes! I have a gorgeous, perfectly adorned, professional newborn & baby portrait located in Agoura Hills, just 20 minutes from Los Angeles. This is not a home or garage conversion studio.
Studio vs. In-Home Sessions
I do offer in-home sessions but in order to achieve the consistent image results you see on this website and in my portfolio. Newborn baby photography sessions are held in my Agoura Hills baby photography studio. Everything is fully prepared prior to your arrival (multiple sets will be in place). You can relax and enjoy some much-needed rest while I photograph your baby, just feet away. Click HERE to read my 10 reasons to have a studio session.
Do you have all the props?
My Los Angeles newborn photography studio is a fully equipped, professional baby portrait studio. I have everything you and your child needs for their first photo shoot. We boast a huge collection of high-end props, only the very best hand made items for your precious new baby. As the session progresses if we need to adjust or pull new props, everything we need is at our fingertips.
Do you take walk-ins?
Unfortunately, no. All of my newborn and baby photography sessions are by appointment only and generally scheduled weeks in advance.
How far in advance should I book?
It's never too early to book! Newborn sessions should be booked during your pregnancy, the earlier the better as I am usually booked months out.
What if my baby comes early or after my due date? How do when know what date to book?
By booking your session with me, (paying the deposit) your new baby has priority on my schedule. That means if the baby comes early or late your baby is guaranteed a spot on my calendar. My newborn sessions are limited per month to accommodate the various arrival dates.
My baby is already here! Can I still do a newborn session?
Occasionally, I do have last minute availability. Please inquire if your baby is slightly older as it might determine if you'll be wanting a newborn or baby session.
How long does a newborn session take?
Full newborn sessions take about 1 - 3 hours, this includes wiggle room if we need extra feeding and soothing breaks. I firmly believe anything over 3 hours is just too long, too long for baby and too long for exhausted parents. Newborn sessions should never need to last 4-5 hours! I'll help you prepare your little one so we can get the very best of baby for the session.
How do I prepare for my newborn session?
Once you're booked and on my schedule you'll get a link emailed to you that will give you tips and information on how to prepare for a smooth newborn session.
Newborn sessions - Can parents and siblings be in the pictures too?
Depending on the package you purchase, we can do a few parent shots. However, newborn sessions are very specific to your newborn and will be the main focus of the session.
Newborn photography sessions are very specific to your day's old child, so they don't include solo shots of siblings but depending on the age and overall cooperativeness I'm happy to attempt a *sibling shot and of course a family shot. For your tiny infant's safety and their vulnerable soft heads, *I do not attempt sibling shots with siblings younger than 3 years old. Toddlers really do have a tough time adjusting especially within those first couple of weeks and it can be very stressful on them to ask them to sit or lie quietly (safely) next to your tiny new baby.
Do you do in-home newborn photo sessions?
In order to achieve the consistent image results you see on my and in my portfolio, newborn and baby sessions are held in my Agoura Hills Studio. Everything is fully prepared prior to your arrival (multiple sets will be in place). You can relax and enjoy some much-needed rest while I photograph your baby, just feet away. No need to move furniture, heat the house to 85, entertain us... simply show up with the baby and we will take care of the rest.
In-home sessions can take twice as long, adding to already tired parents exhaustion. Not to mention moving furniture to accommodate our sets, finding the proper lighting and most importantly maintaining the proper temperature to keep your child comfortable and safe while he/she is unclothed.
How long do I have to wait to view and receive my digital images, prints, and products?
I prefer editing your baby's gallery while the magic of the session is still fresh in my mind. Each newborn has their own little personality!
Your gallery will be online within 10 days of your session and your completed fully edited digital files take about two weeks. Prints, albums, wall art and announcements can take up to 3 weeks from order date.
In addition to your online gallery, you may also come in for a ordering session if you'd like help designing your wall art or look at all the samples.
Why is Los Angeles Newborn Photography so expensive?
Newborn photography is often perceived as expensive due to several factors that contribute to the overall cost:
Specialized Equipment: Professional newborn photographers invest in high-quality cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, props, and accessories specifically designed for newborn photography. These specialized tools are essential for creating stunning and timeless images.
Studio Overheads: Maintaining a private, fully equipped photography studio incurs ongoing expenses such as rent, utilities, insurance, and equipment maintenance. These overhead costs are factored into the pricing of newborn photography services.
Time and Effort: The process of newborn photography extends far beyond the actual session. Photographers spend hours planning, preparing, and editing each session to ensure that every detail is perfect. Additionally, newborn sessions require patience and flexibility, as babies may need breaks for feeding, comforting, or changing.
Product Quality: Professional newborn photographers offer high-quality products such as prints, albums, canvases, and digital files that are meticulously crafted to preserve the beauty of your newborn's images for generations to come. These products are sourced from reputable suppliers and are designed to stand the test of time.
Overall, the cost of Los Angeles newborn photography reflects the value of the expertise, equipment, time, and effort invested by professional photographers to provide you with a high-quality service and products that capture the precious moments of your newborn's early days.
