Common Questions about Newborn Photography
The following are the most common questions I am asked about my Los Angeles newborn and baby photoshoots. Do you have a question? Please feel free to reach out to me. I'm happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.

Are you up to date on the Whooping Cough Vaccine, Flu, and Covid vaccine?
Absolutely! Your baby's comfort and safety are my top priorities. I am fully up to date on the TDap vaccine, ensuring protection against Whooping Cough. Additionally, I receive the Flu shot annually to safeguard against seasonal influenza. Moreover, I have received all three doses of the Covid vaccine. Rest assured, I take every precaution necessary to create a safe and secure environment for your precious little one.
What is the best age to photograph my new baby?
For those timeless, squishy newborn photos that melt your heart, I recommend scheduling a newborn photography session between 5-10 days after your baby's arrival. This sweet spot captures them in their most sleepy, curly stage, perfect for those adorable poses. It's also ideal to have the session before baby acne tends to set in, typically around the 14-day mark. While this is the optimal window, I'm more than happy to photograph babies a bit older as well. Just remember, the first week is golden for those dreamy, curled-up poses.
Do you have a studio?
Yes, as a Los Angeles Newborn Photographer I invite you to my lovely, professionally designed newborn and baby portrait studio in Agoura Hills. It's a dedicated space, meticulously prepared to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for you and your baby. This isn't a makeshift setup—it's a fully equipped studio designed to capture those precious moments in the most beautiful way possible.
Studio vs. In-Home Sessions
For the consistent, breathtaking images you see on my website, I conduct my newborn and baby photography sessions exclusively in my Agoura Hills studio serving all of LA County as well as the Thousand Oaks area. Before your arrival, everything is thoughtfully prepared, from multiple sets with various props to cozy setups to keep your little one content. While I work my magic capturing those priceless moments, you can relax just a few steps away, knowing everything is taken care of.
Do you have all the props?
Absolutely! My studio boasts an extensive collection of handpicked, high-quality props and accessories. From adorable headbands and bonnets to charming outfits and wraps, I have everything needed to style your baby's session based on your preferences. I'm always on the lookout for the latest and greatest props, ensuring your baby's session is not only comfortable but also stylish and unique. All you need to do is bring your precious bundle of joy—I'll take care of the rest!
Do you take walk-ins?
Unfortunately at Maxine Evans Photography, I do not accommodate walk-ins for our sessions. To ensure the best experience and availability, all sessions are by appointment only and typically scheduled weeks in advance.
How far in advance should I book a newborn session?
It's never too early to secure your spot! Newborn sessions should ideally be booked during your pregnancy, allowing for plenty of time to plan and prepare. Since my schedule tends to fill up quickly, booking early ensures you have the perfect slot for your new arrival. CLICK HERE TO CONTACT MAXINE
What if my baby comes early or after my due date? How do we know what date to book?
By booking your session and paying the deposit, your newborn has top priority on my schedule. This means that whether your baby arrives a bit early or after the due date, you are guaranteed a spot in my calendar. I limit the number of newborn sessions per month to accommodate varying arrival dates.
My baby is already here, can I still do a newborn session?
Absolutely! While last-minute availability is limited, I do occasionally have openings for newborn sessions. Please feel free to inquire, especially if your baby is a bit older. Depending on their age, we'll determine whether a newborn or baby session is the best fit.
What age is best for a sitter milestone session?
During these sitter sessions, I focus on capturing the magic of babies aged 7-10 months. It's such a delightful age when they are sitting up confidently, radiating joy and curiosity about the world around them.
When you book a baby photography session with me, the process is effortless. Once you're on my schedule, we can tailor the session to perfectly suit your baby's sitting abilities. Whether they're sitting up like a pro or still working on their balance, we'll make sure they're comfortable and at ease throughout the shoot.
How long does a newborn session take?
A full newborn session typically lasts around 1 to 3 hours, allowing for flexibility in case we need extra time for feeding, soothing, and breaks. I firmly believe in keeping the session time reasonable and manageable, ensuring a positive experience for both baby and exhausted parents.
How do I prepare for my newborn session?
Once your session is booked and you're on my schedule, you'll receive a detailed guide via email. This guide includes helpful tips and information on how to prepare for a smooth and successful newborn session. From what to bring to how to dress, we'll cover everything you need to know.
Can parents and siblings be in the pictures too?
Absolutely! Depending on the package you choose, we can include a few precious parent shots in your newborn photography session. However, please note that newborn sessions primarily focus on your newest arrival. While we don't typically include solo shots of siblings, I'm more than happy to attempt a sibling shot depending on their age and cooperation level. For the safety of your tiny newborn, I do not attempt sibling shots with siblings younger than 3 years old.
How long do I have to wait to view and receive my digital images, prints, and products?
I prefer to start editing your baby's gallery while the memories of the session are fresh. Each newborn has their own unique personality, and I want to ensure that shines through in your images.
Your online gallery will be ready within 10 days of the session, showcasing the beautifully edited digital files. Prints, albums, wall art, and announcements typically take about 3 weeks from the order date. If you prefer, you can also schedule an ordering session to receive assistance in designing your wall art or selecting from our samples.
