Tips for a Successful Baby Photoshoot by Maxine Evans
Here are just a few tips for your baby's milestone photoshoot. As one of Los Angeles best baby photographers, these are a few things I've learned over my nearly 20 year career of professionally photographing newborns and babies. By following these tips, you can help create a comfortable and enjoyable environment for your baby during the photo shoot. This will increase the chances of capturing beautiful and memorable baby photos.
While you read through, I hope you enjoy this peek into Amelia's sitter session.
Before Your Baby's Session - Plan for a Happy Baby
Avoid Pediatric Shots: Try not to schedule any pediatric vaccinations the week before the day of the photo session. Shots can make your baby feel unwell, affecting their mood and behavior during the shoot.
Monitor Nap Schedules: If your baby’s nap schedule changes, consider rescheduling the photo session. Contact your baby photographer as soon as you notice a new pattern so they can adjust the session time accordingly.
On the Day of the Session - Be Prepared!
Well-fed and Well-rested: Ensure your baby has had their nap and a meal or bottle before arriving at the studio. Consider giving them an extra bottle in the car to avoid hunger during the session.
Face Cleaning: Clean your baby's face and nose right before the session. Babies often dislike having their faces cleaned, which can make them upset and leave red marks. Doing this in the parking lot can help ensure they start the session calm. Bring wipes for any necessary touch-ups.
Burp Cloth: Bring a burp cloth to handle any drool or spit-up during the session.
What Your Baby Should Wear for their photoshoot
Outfit Selection: I will have a few things pulled out for you but if you would like to bring outfits, that's just fine. Your baby will have the opportunity to wear two outfits during the photo shoot. Choose simple clothing that highlights your baby as the star of the images. Recommended stores for outfits include Janie and Jack, Noralee, Jamie Kay, or Bonpoint.
Solid Colors: Opt for solid colors that are visually appealing and not distracting.
Showcase Baby’s Features: Consider outfits that reveal your baby’s arms, legs, fingers, and toes to capture their adorable features.
Proper Fit: Ensure the clothing fits properly. Slightly snug outfits are better than ones that are too large for photography.
Outfit Trial: Try the clothes on your baby before the session to ensure they look and fit well.
Avoid Formal Wear: Unless you specifically want formal photos, it’s usually best to avoid shoes, socks, or tights for a more natural and relaxed look.
